SQUAREFOOT™ is a user experience design based on the principles of adaptive reuse, which is repurposing an older building for another purpose other than which it was originally built and used for. SQUAREFOOT™ is a database of older properties that can be used by cities or companies to use or lease out. The ultimate goal for this project is to put this project as a working prototype which is my next step.
Right now I am researching for what people or demographics would be interested in using this concept for their own use. I hope to start this soon. I started this project with first researching into the concept of adaptive reuse and properties that have done this. In the above video, it shows several examples of adaptive reuse such as the Ace Hotel in Downtown LA, which used to be a theater but now has been renovated into hotel rooms. There are many other properties around the world that has done this to older buildings. With renovating older buildings, instead of tearing them down and then building new ones, this helps to reuse buildings and keep character and history in a neighborhood and it also benefits cities in gaining more revenue from these buildings instead of letting them lie empty.
SQUAREFOOT™ is a responsive website that will have an advertising system, banner system, and brand identity system as well.
